Welcome back to April’s meeting summary! I plan on providing a follow-up summary of each board meeting to try and help provide transparency for my decisions while on the board. All of the views, opinions and decisions in these summaries are my own. Here is the summary.
I want to remind everyone that if you would like to read the minutes for yourself you can go to https://go.boarddocs.com/oh/xeniaoh/Board.nsf/Public# and select meetings to see all of the past meetings. Then if you select a meeting there is a link to the agenda and minutes from that meeting. The minutes from the most recent meeting, however, will not be available until approved at the following meeting.
April 11th was board meeting number 4. There was really wasn’t much beyond standard in this meeting. We had a couple people get up to address the board, which is always great to have community involvement. We need to keep the community actively engaged with the school. We then voted to approve the Superintendents consent agenda. Most of the consent agenda was hiring of new personnel or contracts for returning personnel. There were no topics pulled out of this month’s consent agenda. We were able to recognize a couple of our athletes that made it to the state tournaments this year for wrestling and bowling.
The Treasure presented a good financial report and we have received most of funds for the year. The projections show us ending the year in a very good spot financially. Next month we will discuss the 5 year forecast, which I think will be very important. I encourage everyone to check out the yearly financial report. https://www.xeniaschools.org/leadership/district_financials
We also had a discussion on a proposed policy for care of diabetic students. The Board felt we needed some more information and so we voted to table the policy until the next meeting and get that information in the meantime. When I vote in the next meeting I want to make sure I am making the best decision I can for our students.
I know this isn’t much, but this meeting was pretty bland. There are still some longer term goals that I am working toward and one of those should be accomplished soon when we set a strategic plan for the board and schools this summer. I am also looking at hosting some meet and greets downtown for anyone that wants to come and chat, share ideas, or anything else. Let me know if you’d be interested in coming out and I’ll make sure you get notified.
Please send me any comments, concerns, feedback, or questions you may have. I serve you and I am here to represent you to the best of my abilities.
